CARINA and LINNA®: Revolutionizing Agriculture for a Sustainable Future (video)

LINNA® is a cutting-edge computational platform, developed by our project partner Kimitec, that integrates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, systems biology, molecular modelling, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. This powerful tool accelerates the discovery and development of natural, sustainable solutions for modern agriculture.

LINNA® is enabling Kimitec to unlock nature’s hidden potential. By identifying unexplored bioactive compounds and predicting their applications, LINNA® is reshaping how bioherbicides are developed.

One notable advancement is the use of pelargonic acid, a highly effective bioherbicide derived from carinata oil. The application of this natural compound in this context highlights the potential of sustainable agricultural solutions, offering a powerful alternative to synthetic chemicals.

The development of bioherbicides with LINNA® is supported by omics data (metabolomics, phenomics and transcriptomics). These technologies provide detailed insights into how bioherbicide candidates affect plants, from changes in leaf color to shifts in photosynthetic activity.

These omics data, analyzed by LINNA®, guides Kimitec in optimizing bioherbicide formulations for maximum efficiency and sustainability. By combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of biology, CARINA and Kimitec are driving forward a new era of environmentally friendly farming practices.

With LINNA®, CARINA and Kimitec are not just addressing the challenges of modern agriculture but also creating opportunities for a more resilient and sustainable bioeconomy. From innovative bioherbicides to the promotion of crop diversification, the CARINA project exemplifies the power of innovation in driving positive change for farmers, ecosystems, and society as a whole.
