UNTWIST Project Releases Agronomic Protocols for Camelina Cultivation Across Europe

The UNTWIST project has reached an important milestone with the development of four agronomic protocols designed to optimize camelina cultivation in different cropping systems across Europe. As part of the UNTWIST Community, CARINA is pleased to share this valuable outcome, which provides key insights into sustainable oilseed production.

Developed by UNTWIST partners, these protocols offer region-specific guidance on camelina’s role in diverse agricultural practices:

  • France – as a summer catch crop
  • Italy – as an autumn crop for double cropping
  • Spain – as a cover crop for marginal lands
  • United Kingdom – as a spring crop

By tailoring these protocols to different environmental and farming conditions, UNTWIST supports researchers, farmers, and industry stakeholders in integrating camelina into sustainable agricultural systems. The protocols detail best practices for soil management, planting, harvesting, and crop rotation strategies, ensuring optimized productivity and environmental benefits.

These resources are now available on the UNTWIST website and will soon be accessible on Zenodo, making them widely available to those interested in bioeconomy-driven crop diversification.
